Cadet Members

Home / Roll Call / Cadet Members

The Cadet Member Program was implemented in 2006 and was the first cadet program in Sulivan County. Since the program's inception, more than 20 young people have become volunteer or full-time firefighters.

The program gives young people valuable insights into what the job entails as well as the necessary training to get hired. Many cadets, once they see what is involved, say to themselves, "I really want to do this."

The cadets go on fire calls with firefighters, help carry equipment and observe the firefighters in action. They are not permitted to actually fight fires or enter a fire scene until it is deemed safe. To apply for the Cadet Member Program, please fill out the form on this page and we will contact you.

Our Cadet Members... Cadet Members of the fire department are young people (ages 14 and 15) in our community who have expressed a serious interest in becoming a firefighter. We want them to learn about the challenges a firefighter must face, and they receive mentoring and encouragement as they learn and mature. It is our hope that their experience as cadet members helps them decide to serve their community as firefighters, and we are proud to have them as part of our team.

Once Cadet Members are 16 years old, they are considered Firefighters with Restricted Duties, and can take state-sponsored training courses.

Currently, we have one active Cadet Member. If you, or someone you know is interested, please LET US KNOW. We will contact their parents to explain the benefits of the Cadet Member Program and begin the application process.

If you are interested in becoming a Cadet Member of the Youngsville Fire Department, and you are (or will soon be) 14 to 15 years old, you may apply with your parents' permission. Just fill out this form and we will contact you.
